December Update

It has been a busy and exciting few months for the Norfolk at the Pictures team.

Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to the project this year. We have already raised over £12,000 and we are moving ever closer to our target of raising £50,000 to create a new education and exhibition space at Cinema City.

If you’d like to be part of this exciting project and want to donate. You can still do so via:

  • BT MyDonate
    • by cheque, made payable to Cinema City Ltd – sent to NATP Appeal, Cinema Plus at Cinema City, St Andrew’s Street, Norwich, NR2 4AD
  • by buying a seat dedication at Cinema City for yourself or a loved one

If you are able to Gift Aid it the value of your donation will be even higher

As well as fundraising, we have been working hard behind the scenes collecting hundreds of images and articles to tell the fascinating story of Norfolk’s social and cultural history of cinemagoing. Thanks again to all those who have been in touch to tell their stories.

Coming up: Screening events

In the New Year we continue our special screenings celebrating key films or innovations in cinema exhibition including in February, a screening of the b-movie classic The Tingler (starring Vincent Price) in recognition of the tricks and gimmicks Cinema exhibitors and directors had to employ to keep people coming to the cinema. In April we will be collaborating with the Norwich Jazz Club for a screening focusing on British film in the 1960s and their jazz soundtracks. We are also offering several new day schools running at Cinema City.

As cinema has evolved, so has its use of sound. This stimulating day will explore how technological advances and experimentation with sound has shaped the cinema-going experience.
